The Blue-crowns have been regarded as one of the most intelligent conures. They can be taught to talk and learn a rather large vocabulary. They are very affectionate.

We kept our first raised chick as a pet. He was saying hello before he was even weaned.  At age of six months he was saying "What are you doing" "Hello" when telephone rings, "Pretty pretty pretty bird" and is mumbling several more phrases he has not quiet mastered yet, but is patiently working on every morning for hours at end.

These birds are a lot like macaws in personality , but at a more affordable price. Another reason they are popular as pets most of them stay
tame even after they are weaned.

Some parrots get a bit nippy after they are weaned and are  not handled enough, but  most blue crowns seem to stay  tame even if they are not  handled  every day.

Blue crowns make excellent parents. However ours do tend to get aggressive, when they are mating and rearing young ones. At that time we
do not tend to leave hands and fingers longer in cages  than absolutely necessary.

Your Blue Crown Conure does  want a lot of attention from you , like most other pet birds, would like to be out of his cage as often as possible and
interact with you. They love to take showers and act goofy. They also can take a button of your shirt in about 5 seconds. They need lots of toys to
keep them busy during the day and  need  have  different  kinds of  toys. They  should  have  wood toys  that  they  can  chew up,  leather  toys  most of them love  to chew on the leather)  some kind of activity  toy, it can be as plain as a crumpled up  piece of  paper, but it will keep  them busy  and  they like to shred  things. Also preferably  a  swing and  something   they can  take  their  bath  in.

They are one of the best talkers among smaller parrots and usually bond to all family members, not just one. They  are one of my  personal favorites.

As  babies  they  are  so  cute and goofy,  having  such large feet in proportion to  their  bodies and  are a delight to handfeed.
