They have very pretty coloring, their forehead  has a band of orange color and have a bare eye ring. they look a lot like peach fronted conures and very often people confuse the two. One of the big difference is the beak color, the Half Moon has a light beak, also the Half Moon is not as large as the Peach fronted conure.

Colors are green, with a very pretty greenish yellow on the lower part . the orange band  across their head  gets larger as the bird matures.
Lengths  about 9 1/2 inches . Males tend to be slightly larger than the females.

These are really cute birds and make  such good pets.  Their voices are somewhat gravely or hoarse,  but understandable when they speak, They learn to speak at a relatively  early age, often mastering a gravely  hello by the time they are weaned.
They act ferocious when being picked up,  even when at an early age, but are all bark and no bite.

I think the song "doing it my way" was written with them in mind.  Most of them have a mind of their own, will  get in trouble on purpose and just look at you like they are saying: Well, what are you going to do about it?

They do not favor bathing , getting a few feathers wet around their beaks is often the extend of it and in the wild they live mostly off fruits and are always covered in sticky stuff, since they do not make any  effort to find any water to bathe in. They will opt more for a shower and do like to be sprayed with a misting bottle.

They can be a little louder than  their Pyrrhuracousins (Green Cheeks, Maroon bellies etc.), but are not as loud as most aratinga parrots (Blue Crown, suns etc.)

They are also relatively inexpensive  to purchase and do not require a very large cage like a Blue Crown for example, thus making  them a very good pet to have if you live in an apartment. They are comical little birds and a delight to have around.
